How Does your Zodiac Sign Relate to your Healthcare Career?

“What is your sign?” How many of you automatically thought, “Oh, my astrology sign! I am a Capricorn.” However, others may be utterly confused by this question even though knowing your astrology seems to be more common than knowing what blood type you are. Although astrology seems like a trend due to an abundance of social media accounts and posts being created, it has been here since the Babylonian era. The Babylonians divided their zodiac into 12 signs (although historians are unsure if they were the first); this was soon popularized by the famous astronomer, Ptolemy. His book, Terabiblos, became the definitive book for Western astrology.

We figured we would ask our Reservists what the common traits are for each sign and how those traits intertwine with their profession – healthcare.

However, this love for routines causes them to not be fond of changes compared to others, making them very stubborn at times. Regardless, they will always work hard because they have a love for luxury. They may even be wearing snazzy scrubs as you read this.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20) – Air

Adaptable, witty, and extroverted are just a few great traits of a Gemini. Geminis are highly intelligent, always having tidbits about everything. They are ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication and intellect, making them good with words. They tend to do well in high-energy atmospheres so you may find many Geminis’ working well on days where there are consecutive codes and a busy floor. They are also very witty and fun-natured people so you will find them constantly surrounded by others. Their symbol is the twins, representing their versatility which can come off as two-sided. Geminis are known for their “double personalities’ and can switch from one mood to the other. Allowing them to separate their work and personal life. You rarely see a Gemini bring work and the emotions attached to it to their homes and vice versa. This makes them someone you can always count on as someone who is at work ready to work.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22) – Water

Intuitive, sentimental, and nurturing are what make a Cancer unique. Cancers are known for their emotional and sensitive traits making them the “mothers” of any group. Cancers are natural-born caregivers who desire to make those they love comfortable. Intuition is their biggest trait because they have a hidden talent for reading others and know how to successfully navigate the emotions of others. This talent and intuition allow them to have fantastic bedside manners. Cancers will show “motherly” care for each of their patients as if their patient is their own family member. Cancers are also very loyal, but it takes time to gain their loyalty. Even though they are sensitive to other emotions and feelings, Cancers display a tough exterior. They have a keen sense of responsibility, making them natural leaders. They want to be successful, so they will give 100% of themselves to become that. They are a highly knowledgeable sign so if you need help with anything, they should be your go-to person. Unfortunately, Virgos are not the best at self-expressions and sometimes can come off stoic, but that is their way of protecting their emotions.

Libra (September 23 – October 22) – Air

Diplomatic, idealistic, and social makes one a Libra. Another intelligent sign: they are what we consider book smart. Libras can be hard to read at times because they are very empathic and receptive. Libras are creative in finding solutions that many may not see. They are peacemakers who prefer to avoid conflict or confrontation. They are the diplomats of the staff so if there is ever a conflict between the staff and patient(s) try to have a Libra there to meditate. Libras have strong values and morals and stand firm in these. Although they have this characteristic, decision-making is hard for them. So, if there is a decision to be made quickly during a shift, it may be best to not ask a Libra.

Scorpio (October 23 – November 21)- Water

Brave, passionate, and resourceful are traits to lead a Scorpio to success! You cannot get a more direct sign than a Scorpio. They are very observant and know what makes someone upset or annoyed. They can use this skill for good when they check their patients; they are very aware if something is bothering them even if their patients are unaware. Scorpios are also noticeably confident (as confident as a Leo). They are aware of their strengths and weaknesses so when a Scorpio says they can do it, believe them. Scorpios are overly ambitious; once they have a goal, they will go for it no matter what. They know how to succeed and whom to follow to get to the top. Although we love their ambitious attitude sometimes, it can come off as opportunistic.

Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21) – Fire

Adventurous, curious, and visionary are just a few qualities to be a Sagittarius. Sagittarius are outgoing people; socializing can come second nature to them if they want it. They flourish in a workplace where they can socialize. Therefore, you will see a Sagittarius talking to not only their patients but the patient’s family members as well. Sagittarius’ are known to have strong morals and values. Their work/career needs to align with their ideal, not the salary from the work. They enjoy learning and healing, so working in the healthcare workplace is fitting for them. As long they have the freedom to be themselves, they are easy to work with.
